Interview with Ben Cruz (eK)
An interview with eK,
about The Mystery of Isis II.
Interviewed via email by Vidar Flak :: Released
sometime in the beginning of 2001
VF: For those who don't
know, could you give me a short description of
what The Mystery Of Isis II is?eK:
The Mystery of Isis II is a fan game based on the
Commander Keen series by id Software. It was one
of the first keen fan games to have it's own
engine and has lots of other features that other
keen fan games don't.
VF:
Who is on the Isis team?
eK:
Here is everyone who's ever been on the team in
order of joining
Geoff:
Project Coordinator
DML: Programmer (disappeared numerous times)
pLeitorian: Level Designer/Game Designer
(disappeared recently)
eK (me): Artist/Game Designer
Vertigo: Artist (left the team a long time ago)
AA: Artist (replaced Vertigo)
Ilsoap: Musician
Corey: Artist (left, came back)
Tony Gies: Sound FX
The
current team as of 26 November 2000 is me and
Geoff, pretty much. Corey, Tony, and AA are
there, but loosly. It's hard to explain.
VF:
For how long have you been working on the game?
eK:
Over a year. We started early during the summer
of '99.
VF:
Why isn't anything happening?
eK:
A lot was happening, but it's hard to do things
without your programmer and level designer who
have both inexplicable disappeared.
VF:
Have you got any idea about when the fourth demo
will be released?
eK:
Well, we would have released it already except
for 2 problems. The first one is that the most
recent version of the game has easy to access
codes, has a blowgun that's more powerful than
the Zeffer (weapon #2), etc - and it all makes me
reluctant to want to release it. The second
reason is the most important. We may be getting
another engine and another artist soon, and if
that works out then we can get the game (or at
least the first half) done and we won't be
spoiling it by releasing a demo now.
VF:
Thank you for answering CK Rocket's* questions!
eK:
No problem, oh, and expect another interview from
me soon, one where I'm asking the questions (like
with the two Tom Hall and one John R. interviews)

Rocket: This interview was made way back in the
beginning of 2001, for VF's magenta-colored
Commander Keen Rocket site...
