New Keen 4, 5 levels preview! By Mark.
Some time I ago I was contacted by someone from the Netherlands. He's working at some Keen levels (see screens bellow)

I've played one level and I think it was really good  .
It was a really puzzle level and it was a large one too.
This was his first level so I've good hope that the rest will be even better.
Release date: Ready when it's done (before 10 December)

Mark needs to know which files you need to play the levels.

Well, here i am, introducing myself as Mark (woohoo T_T)
I was just fooling around on internet lately and discovered that finally it has been made possible to create AND play your own Commander keen levels. (here should have been a very happy smiley)
So i started on my own to explore the program, and after 4 days of some research, it came to me as a smart an clear little program to set up your own keenlevels fast and simple.
I started to fool around some with level creation, and I wanted to post some nice levels here on the forum, just for the fans, because i know there are so many of them out there
but because of lack of webspace i contacted a new friend of me 'Djaser' (with available webspace) and he told me he was willing to post my levels here on the forum (BIG THANXX )
Anyway, I have made one commander keen 4 level and one for ck 5, more for ck5 are coming, since ck5 has more interesting features like slicestars, etc.
Im thinking about making levels for ck4 too so sometime in the future there should be more levels from me for c4 and ck5
only problem is that I dont know exactly what to place in my level distributing zipfiles. And since i dont want to violate iD's copyright, i cant distribute my entire directory...

Hiya, and welcome! I hope to see some levels released soon, as they look interesting. I've thought about it, and since decided that TED5 is a bit too confusing at the moment, at least until someone makes a complete tutorial for it. Chances are pretty good that I've been spolied by Jazz 2's level editor, since it's really spiffy in comparison.

The files you will need to distribute are as follows (an X stands for the episode number that
you are editing; either 4, 5, or 6):
· goX.bat (batch file to play the custom levels)
· custmaps.ckX (contains the custom levels)
· maphead.ckX (stores some more level data)
· ckXpatch.exe (the patching program)
· patchX.pat (the patching information)
· unlzexe.exe (to uncompress Keen executables ready for patching)
These apply if you used used tedsetup to set things up for editing initially.

No tutorial for Keen 4-6 level editing? Andrew Durdin made a quite decent tutorial. It's in the first ever issue of the Commander Keen Newsletter... Least that's what I used
BTW, sweet looking levels.

That's a relatively good tutorial, but it doesn't include some of the more technical stuff, if I recall correctly, like doors. Like I said, the Jazz 2 level editor is actually similar in comparison, but far more user-friendly. And I rarely have decent level ideas anyway...

I've already got a fully registered version of keen 5 but it's by gt interactive and i can't edit it with ted edit or play any other levels people have made with it and it's really getting on my nerves.
make patches using patchmaker at clickteam
As far as I know, patches are legal but i can't find any and i DON'T want to resort to illegal activity.

Thanx for the comments guys, im currently building the ck5 level, from the pic you saw, its called RED ZONE (I know I am very creative  ) It should be going to be some big map, but i have not tested the maximum available memory of ck5 yet.
Anyway for those who also try to make levels for ck4 5 or 6 please remember that tiles use memory! So dont start deleting entities if commander keen gives: 'insufficient memory to load level) but try to reduce the number of tiles instead. I did not read any tutorial at all, but if this information is not already in, please include this in your tutorial.(of course with thanks to candy-junk  ) I had to redesign 50% of one level to make it run in ck4!!
When i finish this 'red zone' level I will post it among with two other already made levels through my friend djaser. So that should be before the end of this week, beware

I played another level of Keen 5 and it's a nice one too.
The levels are not as big as I first thought but they are really nice.

I used to really want to edit Keen levels, but now that it's finally possible, I feel like I need to be able to change the graphics too for it to be worth it for me.
I am going to try out the levels mentioned in this thread if I have time though.

Since I live in holland too, i dont need to check that webcam, pal (Makker;-))
i am currently working on an idea to rebuild Keen 4, because the tileset of keen 4 is much more interesting than keen 5.
anyway, i will finish my keen 5 level 'red zone' and then continue with part 4.
I shall ask djaser to post some of my finished levels in a new topic tomorrow. some unfinished maps will be included too. but i dont think that will be too much of a problem. 
Anyway, i will first finish my barbecue, then party all night long, and tomorrow work on my pc with a bad headache

what is a carbon slurry by the way?
And i am looking for Djaser, because i finished two levels(playtested etc) for CK 4
one level is a replacement of the bwb rocket and the other is a remake of the first level, (not as good, but it can do ) also with a hidden 7x 1up

You only fixed a bug in the bwb level. I don't know what to say about the first level, too little changes 
But your new Keen 5 level looks great so far

Last time I contacted him he looked again at him and said that he was motivated again to finish them. That was a month or two ago he would have contacted me if he had really done something. I will sent these levels to someone but I first want to contact Mark first, later this week. Feel free to remember me if I forget.

nah, just let him finish it if he really wants to. I would personally hate to play an unfinished level unless it was from a really good fan game or something.
