Yorp Anatomy- How is a Yorp really built?
for this and more, read on!
For starters, what is a yorp?
Most people assume that yorps are reptilian because
of the color of their skin. But how would a reptile
be able to survive in this snow?
Yet this yorp, "Spot", seems to be enjoying itself.
Though opinions abound, the most plausible idea
is that the yorp is a type of alien accustomed
almost every climate. In the level right before the
end, a yorp can be seen happily bounding about in the
fire, whereas this yorp is apparently used to the below
zero weather it is being exposed to.
Another interesting idea being considered by the learned
scientists of Yorpology,Inc. is that the Yorp in the picture
above is of a different race than the yorps actually in the
games. View, for example, the length of the legs compared to
this one:
It is presumed that the type of Yorp Billy brought
home was, in reality, a different species, whose longer
legs make it possible that it was built for snow.
Anyways, on to the Yorp Anatomy.
This is the average yorp (enlarged, of course- the
real yorp is averaged to be about the size of a large
dog.)
The parts of the yorp are clearly pointed out with
arrows and labelled with numbers, as you can see,
And the picture inset is the facial area.
1.) The yorp's feet. Located atthe end of this type
of yorp's very short legs, the feet are useful in
locomotion and are relatively strong, empowered with
the ability, to project the yorp about a foot of the
ground, as well as break a long fall. There's an old
saying- "A yorp always lands on his feet". This is almost
always the case.
2.) The yorp's cheeks. While no-one has actually ever
witnessed a feeding yorp, scientists think it is likely that
the yorp's eating patterns are much like that of
chipmunks here on Earth. The huge size of the cheeks
in proportion with the rest of the yorp is the basis
of this theory.
3.) The yorp's skull. Thin and protecting a very small
and, for the most part, dormant brain, this is the yorp's
most vulnerable area. Merely jumping onto a yorp too
dazed to get out of the way will render him unconscious for
a reasonable period of time, though doing the same to
most creatures of the same size would only give them a bump,
if anything.
4.) The yorp's eye. The Single Eye of the Yorp, one
it's main identifying characteristics, is large and round.
Yorps can see in almost every direcion with this large
eye, as their heads can swivel like an owl to face anything.
5.) The yorp's long neck is the other thing the distinguishes
it from it's distant aggressive cousin, The Garg. The
neck, while weak, is useful to the yorp to balance out it's
short legs so it can see. 6.) The yorp's singular tooth is located in
it's wide,
open mouth. It is obvious from the presence of the yorp's
singular tooth that it must feed on materials that don't
require too much chewing. Scientists at Yorpology, Inc.
have been led to believe that the tooth is used for
the yorp's self-defense only and has nothing to do with
feeding.
I hope that helped to shed some light on this very
interesting yet complicated subject. Thanks for visiting.
