Commander Keen Episode Three Review

Ah, third time's the charm.

Graphics: 6

Although it still utilizes the pathetic old grpahics engine of Keens1 and 2, Hall and Romero
actually try to show off their 16 color graphics it seems. They have all sorts of nice
outdoor pictures and even today I think the grpahics are great. It's not really the
graphics that matter, it's how you use them.

Gameplay: 3

Gameplay still gets a three. It is still choppy and annoying.

Game Design: 10

People complain because you only have to go through three levels to win. HA! That is only
if you have played through the game enough to figure out the path. More likely, a newbie
will get lost and play numerous levels before finding a way out. Plus, the maze-like map
causes you not to notice some of the levels, only to find them later when you thought you
knew them all.

Satisfaction: 10

Ah, good satisfaction. You kill -------- and then win. You get the Big V, which is on the
entrance to Commander Keen Eternal.

Sound: 1

Not much sound. Same as Keens1 and 2 unfortunately.

Overall Rating: 69

Memorable Moment:

For years, I thought that -------- ------ was Keen's dentist. Hrm.

I refuse to comment on that rating! I think that re-making Keen3 for the new millenium would be aweseome. With today's technology, it would be great! Just imagine Keen running by the trees, going through the caves- in 24-bit graphics! Not to mention a nice cinematic of the Mangling Machine exploding. Ah. Destruction. But I don't see that happening any time soon.
