Wow...that is awesome. You didn't leave out a single detail.

Some things I loved:
the monkeys fling poo!
the level design and art and concepts are great
how the shadows in the cave levels are angled according to their relative location from the torch
those TV's are great!

Some not so good things:
in at least two levels some tiles got erased as you exited (not so bad)
Britney's head, it just doesn't belong
THE FACT THAT THE GAME IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT :furious the level in the upper left stops working after you enter any other level. And something else on the map that looks like a level doesn't go anywhere.
Also, about half the files in that zip you didn't need in there.

:eek - This - is - so - great!!! :drool

This is actually the best mod I've played! Everything is just perfect!

Things I liked:
+ The level design, all the levels are very well designed
+ The graphics - Awesome! (the colors was also used very well)
+ The shadows in the cave levels :love
+ Lots of other small stuff: the snow that falls in throught the ceiling in the caves, the door and keycard graphics, the monkeys, the way the forest levels are made (with some trees behind and some in front of the blue guy)
...and lots of more stuff

I didn't have such a problem, but after I saved all the members, I didn't complete the game anyway. It was because one of them didn't count as a saved one even if I saved him (I think he had black hair...?)

I also got this message first, but after making the size of the Britney sprite smaller I got it to work (it was the same problem with Xtra's Norp3 mod). I think you (Chris) have to release a new version with a Britney with a smaller head (so the size of the sprite becomes smaller) and with the problem that makes the game impossible to beat fixed.

Again,

RE
awesome

I'm glad you guys like it!

yeah, I'm definitely planning more versions of this game and more mods, but I just had to draw the line for this version somewhere - there are sooo many possibilities and details that its almost immpossible to get them all. I've been debugging for like 3 weeks.

Yeah, whats up with the memory problem? I think I am just going to replace Britney but I'm not sure. Also, I don't know why when you save Jacob sometimes it doesn't register with the program - I'm able to beat it, but not always - any suggestions on how I can fix this??

I'm also aware of the tile problem when you exit some levels. I also have this huge list of things that I want to change but I really do not have any time to fix them for a while...I have a job and we've (the band)been busy working on new songs and playing shows etc. .....so give me like a week or two and I will post a version 2.0. I am also planning some more levels.

Another thing I totally forgot to edit was the "Keens Left" dialog which I need to change to "Lives left" or something. Also I forgot to take out the Vorticon on the help screen!

If you are having difficulty with the memory thing, just run the keen1.exe and at least you can play the game, even though the text won't all be correct.

It works fine on one of my computers, but I get the memory error on this older one. So frusterating....

Anyway, enjoy, I'll make a bunch of fixes and additions soon.

Chris

The memory errors seem to be a symptom of having large sprites, but if you're using an new computer, you won't get them.

Out of memory
Another solution is to create a boot disk (remember those?)
If you have DOS 5.0 or later, or Win95 or 98, simply format a disk and make it bootable, and put HIMEM.SYS on it. Then make a config.sys file which contains the two lines:
DOS=HIGH
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS

Copy all the Keen files onto the disk for easy access (for PaperFace's mod you only need the .bat and .ck1 files, keen1.exe and ck1patch.exe, and patch.pat.).

If you can't make a bootdisk, download one from www.bootdisk.com (the DOS 5.0 one looks like it'll work well), and delete all files off the bootdisk except MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS, COMMAND.COM, CONFIG.SYS, and HIMEM.SYS. Then copy your Keen files onto it as well.

You can then boot your machine off the floppy disk, and run Keen. This boot disk will give you the maximum amount of "conventional" memory, which is what Keen1 needs.

Re: Out of memory
Hey, adurdin, I've heard that some games (like F15) used to include a program that would create a more 'powerful' boot disk. Is this true?

Re: Out of memory
True; but usually those programs would create bootdisks which would be tailored for that specific program, so would probably not be of any use in this case.

Re: yes
This mod is really great. The artwork is very well done. Some levels are quite hard, but nothing that a little intensive save-and-loading can't fix.

It's not really a Keen game (since Keen is only mentioned in the story), but we would still like it to be on CC314. Is this allright with you?
