The atmosphere looks the same, however that first shot is REALLY boring.
It looks nice, but is that art Xky's or yours?

Re: Mod alert!
Some of my art is Xky's; the keen sprite is the main one, with minor modifications. I couldn't find any other good ones, and whenever I tried to draw one, it looked awful. =)
I have a lot of really dark levels, to make it seem as though it is in the sublevels of a deep, dark spaceship.
No comments on the "dark" tiles?

I agree with that.

Boulderdash?
Grelphy, maybe you could take a look at the blue tiles from the first screenshot.
The edge tiles are blue, of course, and have a black border.
Perhaps you could enhance that border a little bit.
Everything looks quite flat at the moment.
For instance the sign in the top right of that screenshot stands out a bit more, and it would even without the text.
There's some light coming from the top left, making those pixels lighter, and it seems like there are some kind of rivets maybe?
Anyway, a little bit of detail would break up some of the monotony of the blue.
That's my opinion.
Xky, I suppose now is a good time to get off-topic for a second and ask.
Your avatar reminds me of something; the style Keen is drawn in I mean.
Were you thinking about Boulderdash when you drew it by any chance?
I think it's that game it makes me think of.
Dark, tiny screenies, whichs need enhanced brightness and zooming in:

Maybe it's just me...

Unfleex: It happens at the other end of the wormhole. Nothing else about the story has been worked out.
Xky: give me some time to work on my world map and I'll make a demo... the levels are as hard as I could make them, though, so be careful!
Retodon: Were you maybe thinking like the green solid? The blue is blank for a reason, although I like the idea of rivets.
I'll see if I can get more screens up soon!

mod mod
Grelphy: take your time... i've not got much spare time, and i'm working on my own Keen2 mod in what little i've got :-) but as soon as i get something in my inbox, i'm playin' it thru!
also, in light of Retodon's comments--remember in the base tiles of my mod, the dark blue tiles had the light blue shine on the top of them, much like the default dark red Mars tiles had a light red shine atop them--it adds depth to the image, and helps make the setting more believable. having the tile entirely dark blue is a bad idea.
Retodon: no, i've never played Baulderdash... never even seen it! when doodling my Keen sprite, i tried to make it look like my Keen fan art that's on CC314... so it's my own personal style, but there's influences of practically any other 8bit sidescrolling game :-)

Re: mod mod
Grelphy, the green looks a bit more 3D, because the top and left borders are lighter than the main body of the tile, and the other 2 borders are darker.
I guess what I meant was, that you could use more than just 1 pixel lines to enhance that.
Of course with a really limited 16 colour palette it's hard to get something looking nice.
I'm also thinking about adding some random detail in the places where there is a lot of blue, just to break things up a bit.
Of course you also have a limited number of tiles you can redesign.
Designing things is never easy.
You might not even agree with my views in the first place.
Xky, I looked up your fan art, because I haven't been in that section of this site for a long time.
I remember now... remember now that that art made me think of Lemmings for a little while when I first saw it.
Inspiration is a funny thing.
I personally try to be original, not use other people's work when I don't have to (when just designing things in general) but naturally I get inspired by things I see.
When you think of it, everybody's ideas are simply continuations of other people's ideas.

Re: Mod alert!
nah, i'm sure it's still for keen 1.
Because didn't i just see a teleporter in one of the shots?
And the teleporter doesn't work in keen 2 (if you add it)

Re: Mod alert!
I know that those teleports doesn't work with Keen 2 and 3..
I'm just not sure that thing is teleport there..
First I thought it is for Keen 1, but then I thought it is for Keen 2, because Xky's mod was for Keen 1, and Grelphy's fav Keen is Keen 5, and Keen 2 is very space-ship styled like Keen 5.

Re: Mod alert!
It's a keen 1 mod. I actually want to make it Keen 3, but I started before I got the non-shareware keens, and didn't feel like remaking my tileset.
I've got a quickly made up name: Commander Keen in Episode "Y."
You get it, right?
Besides, Keenrush, who says you cant just make a spaceship?

Ok ok.. I just thought that you like Keen 2, because you like Keen 5 most, and both of them are placed on something spaceship; I just though you want edit Keen 2..
But better if it's for Keen 1, the gargs' running and jumping is very cool!

Re: sounds great to me
Heh, did you happen to notice my subtle "kick" at Micro$oft? Or ID?
Explaination: The block is over an ID sign. Splat! (All ID signs are under blocks.)
and the control panels in the picture with the window... one has a "windoze" screen. The other one has the all-to-well-known "blue screen of death." Mort's minions are using Windoze!
How about the level design that you can see (thinking the zapper stairs near the bottom)?

Re: sounds great to me
It's a bit hard to see in such small screenshots in a high resolutions, but yes, I see it now.
So those are falling blocks.
I assumed you could only add those to one level, but then again... it doesn't really technically do anything to the level, besides opening up a path.
Like you said, with such a tiny portion of the levels it's hard to judge the design, but it seems to be good.
There are different kinds of rooms, setups, which is obviously necesary for having fun playing.
The zapper stairs.
Brings back memories of jumping in the dark, over a firepit, and another, and missing one of them, in the original Keen.
Good thing I've at least got slightly better at that now, years later.
Games need challenges, because otherwise people will just finish them in no time.

Re: sounds great to me
Ah ha! Preliminary storyline!
Commander Keen flies through the wormhole carefully scanning space for Mortimer Mcmire's second fleet. He sees a giant space station in the distance...
Later, landing at the station, Keen carefully creeps through the ship. However, Mort is taking no chances with his universe destruction device, and Keen is detected. Huge and dangerous tank robots chase him through the ship, and eventually he has to teleport through a one-way teleport, leaving behind his pogo and neural stunner.
Fortunately, Mort's station is well armed; Keen is quickly able to find a weapon. And some of the robots use specially designed Pogo Stick version 2.0. With these, Keen is as powerful as ever; but the enemies on Mort's ship are more formidable than anything Keen has ever met before.
The only way that Commander Keen can shut down the ship and get back to the Bean-With-Bacon Megarocket is to collect the four souped-up Power Cores that are hidden in various places on the ship. They are heavily guarded by vicious robots, and dangerous traps. Keen must collect them all, or...
The Universe is Toast!
Oh yeah, I hope to get a demo up by Monday or so.
