New Keen 1 sprite
I'm not sure if this should be in the unofficial games section, but this is only a minor graphical change to Keen 1.

I sat down yesterday and made a new keen sprite for episode one, based on the cool doodles by Xky Raugh you can find in the fan art section of cc314. You can get the necessary Egalatch, Egahead and Egasprit.ck1 files in a zip here. To install, just extract the files into your keen 1 directory, overwriting the originals. Make a backup of those three files if you want to revert to the old graphics afterwards.

wow ^_^ i'm honored that you did that, Manboy! i really like the idle-stance and the run cycle you did--the shot pose is cute, and the pogo stance works very well... i'm a little unhappy with the jump frame (feet look as if he's standing still, and always looking up makes falling seem hopeless lol) but it's a pretty accurate incarnation of my doodles ^_^

thanks again for your hard work! (btw, you forgot to change the "frozen in ice" stuff) ;-D

I'm glad you like it, Xky. Your drawings really gave keen a bit of a bomberman flavour in my mind's eye. I agree about the falling; I think the pose works on the way up, but makes Keen look a bit suicidal on the way down. :) I wish I had an extra frame for falling, but as it stands I'll just have to fiddle. I'll fix that and add the ice frames when I have a bit of time to spare.

Improved sprite
Right, I've fixed up the jump pose, and added trapped in ice and dying frames. Get it (38.9 k) here

Very cool.

The only (slight) problem in my mind is the lack of a border on one side causes Keen to occasionally blend in a bit with background objects.

Question: Can thoes files (ega-head/latch/sprit) be renamed to ck2 and used in 'The Earth Explodes'?

ck2 conversion
The trouble would be that those egaetc.ck1 files contain all the graphics for keen 1, so no. The best way to substitute the new keen sprite would be to use Andy's modkeen utility to export the bmps from ck1 and ck2, copy the bmps I changed and paste them over the ones in keen 2, then use modkeen to import them back. One possible problem is that the equvalent images in keen 2 have different filenames than those for two eg: the shoot right frame in ck1 has the filename blah_19 but the equivalent graphic in keen 2 could be blah_18. So what you'd have to do then is copy the keen character sprite bmps into a separate folder, and rename them so they match up with ck2's. Then paste them over keen 2's bitmaps and import with modkeen.

Check Andy's website for instructions and the utility itself. I really owe quite a lot to that man. And get his keen 1-3 editor, if you haven't got it. It's the best.

The Ck sprite numbers are exactly the same for all three episodes, but there are a different amount of total sprites in each so I don't know how the game would work. BTW, the only file you needed to upload was EGASPRIT.CK1.
