March 14, 2003:
Shadowlands Episode II is Released
It is 12:25 AM, March 14th, Pacific Standard Time. I'm twenty-five
minutes later than I thought I'd be in saying this, but it's finally
time to say so...
...after exactly one year of
waiting...
SHADOWLANDS EPISODE II IS HERE!!!! www.angelfire.com/emo/shadowlands
and follow the link!
*fanfare, applause, and all sorts of
other bits of fuss*
(Now, keep in mind, that the Shadowlands
site is hosted on Angelfire, so there's probably limited bandwidth.
What this means is that there will probably be a limit on the amount
of people who can see it today, so if you aren't allowed in, try in
a few hours or the next day, and you'll probably have better
luck.)
I am now going to sleep.

Re: March 14,

OH MY GOD!
THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!
Much better than I
thought it was going to be!
And I thought that giant foot was
going to make a riot to send the Licks army to the Pyramid of the
Forbidden and it was going to finish there.
COOL
STUFF!
You'll be 100% guaranteed to win the 2003 keen
awards!
I'm the first person to watch it too. Cool!

Wonderous! You've done such a great job with this animation. I'm
stunned. I think one of the winners of Keen Awards 2003 is
already certified..
ps. there's a minor spelling error on the

Once again, you have done it Ilsoap.
I had to get on before school and check it out. As long as it's okay
with you, I'll add it to my site. Can't wait until Ep. 3, even if it
takes another year!
"Let's Nukem!"
Oh yeah, and I was suprised to see a Bloog on Fribbulus Xax
;p. I also noticed lots of instances in the video that relate to pop
culture. For instance, The Weakest Link, the two arachnuts are like
the two old guys from The Muppets always making wise cracks, and of
course who can forget about the music that's played when the foot
appears :P A great job including all of that into the video.

I'll see if I
can address you all in this...
Well, first of all, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank
you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I checked
the site stats, and apparently, within the last 24 hours, the page
was visited 347 times.
That is much better than I could have hoped for... Shadowlands must
have a lot of fans.
Personally, I don't think I'm necessarily
a shoe-in this year for the 2003 Keen Awards... there are a couple
of animated things coming out this year by other fans, not to
mention that groovy little 3D flick about the yorps (I think
Manboy's doing that one?). But thanks for the advance nominations.
When is the next part finished? WHEN IS THE NEXT PART
FINISHED?!?!?!? I just spent how many hours of my free time
finishing episode 2, and YOU CAN'T GIVE ME A BREAK?!?!?
AAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!?
Just kidding. Honestly, I don't
know. I think with Episode 3, I am going to make sure I'm at least
50% done it before I even start mentioning it again. I realize
that's kinda mean, but once I announce something, I commit to doing
it, and I want to be sure that it will be done (I'm sure you guys do
too). But no promises about 3-14-04. If I haven't said anything by
then, it will pass just like any other day.
Spelling error... where? I didn't notice
anything...
What do the inchworms say? Yeah, it's kinda hard
to give them such a high voice and still make them recognizable
(especially with everyone having different accents and all). Maybe
on the Shadowlands site I'll release the script of what the
characters say, but here's the inchworm's total lines:
- with
the wormmouth "Hello!" - "And I'm an inchworm! We want to be part
of your team!" - "You are the weakest lick,
goodbye!"
Anyone who wants to may add it to their site, but I
don't think I'm going to change hosts yet. The problem with sites
that offer "free hosting" with lots of bandwidth space and no ads is
that they never last very long... suddenly, when everyone picks up
on the fact that they're such a bargain, they can't afford having so
many subscribers. Angelfire has ads, but it has enough bandwidth
space for me, and it's been around for, like, EVER.
Again, thanks for the comments. In a couple days, when the
fuss has died down, I'll e-mail Tom Hall again. He said he liked the
first one, he might remember it enough to want to see the second one
too.

Fine. I give. Download Episode II here, then unzip into any
folder you want, and double-click on the HTML file. It should open
up the animation in an internet browser window.
Beware,
though, this is a temporary file, and will go away at the end of the
month.

Hey Ilsoap, why don't you cut back on the fancy

simple so that you can release it more often (5 months at a time or
so)

I will officially say that this is easily one of the
funniest things I've seen online in a long time. This be awesome. Me
like. Very much. Where were all of those lazy Mimrocks during the
attack though? Eh? And to nitpick: Mimrocks have legs, and the Giant
Flying Foot of Doom probably counts as a leg too. Arachnuts just
must not be too smart. Keep the parodies rolling.

argh
oh calm down... it was a skirmish, not the entire war ;-) both
sides were merely gathering a taste of the other's might. were it
not for the Inchworms and Wormouths, the Slugs would be in serious
trouble already. but the cat is out of the bag now--the Licks ~know~
that the Slugs have allies... :-D should prove
interesting.
out of curiousity, Ilsoap, do you have things
scripted out in advance, or are you just doing things on the fly? i
only ask because usually if i try to script something out ~too~ far,
i end up changing things on the fly to make them more interesting
:-}

Answering your
questions
Answers for your
questions:
Where were the
lazy Mimrocks? Mimrocks? Lazy? What
makes you say that? No, they didn't take part in the little skirmish
against the Slug Village (Xky was dead on in his interpretation of
the war... good for you!), but that doesn't mean that the Mimrocks
weren't part of the plan. King Lick didn't want the Mimrocks to
attack for a very good
reason...
Neither side has a
leg to stand on. True, the mimrocks
have legs, but they didn't actually fight in that battle. And the
foot is not a leg.
Basically, the battle is between the Licks and the Slugs... the
other species are just helping out (and neither of those two main
species has any legs). That's how I reasoned that one out.
More seen of the
Gnosticene Ancients. Hard to say.
It's tough to figure out how to use them, since no reason is given
for them being there in Keen 4. But if I animate far enough into
this story, you will see them a few more times.
Scripts.
Yes, things are scripted in advance, although often it's just so
that I can mess up the script while I'm animating it. I'd say about
3/4 of what you saw was planned a year ago, but some scenes had to
be taken out or rearranged. (The bounder knocking out the slugs like
a bowling ball was only planned three weeks ago!) If I had the time,
I would have explained the reason why the inchworms and wormmouths
were willing to join the "enemy". Maybe save that for later.
Who holds up that
pointer? That question will go into
the big box of unanswerable questions, like "How were the slugs able
to build TWO villages so quickly without arms?". My guess: no one
will ever know. (I sure don't.)

Re: Answering
your questions
I'd say that the Pyramids, Miragia, Sand Yego, Crysilus (sp?),
etc., were built by the group of people that Princess Lindsey, the
page, and the Council Members belong to long ago. Maybe the various
other aliens forced them out, or it could have been the Shikadi sho
sent them packing, since they knew enough to stick the Council
Members out there.

Maybe, but I'm just throwing a theory out here. The page does say
that the Shadowlands are far to the west, so it isn't inconciveable
to say that they might have lived there a few centuries ago. Keen
games aren't exactly noted for their storyline.

Re: Good

If Xtra wouldn't have said that, I would.. See, the Council
Members are captured there that they couldn't "use" Oracle, if I
remember correct. But I always thought that they would be a part
of Shadowlands, before I read the stories.
But who knows, maybe they have been in Shadowlands before.. Oh,
and by the way, what is Lindsey doing there, is he something
princess of the Shadowlands? (sorry, I really can't remember if
there's something about her in the story)

I've always imagined Lindsey would be part of the Gnosticene
society. Maybe she's heir to their throne or something. Do you think
she is a sorceress? It's either her reflection that Keen jumps
into.. or the girl is floating in the air.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwesome!
It was great!! I salute you Ilsoap! I didn't like how King Slug
sounded less like Guilmon but that didn't ruin it's sheer brilliance
quality and hilarious jokes. My favorite part was the giant
foot.
Twelve inches make a foot!
I don't know if
anyone noticed, but the giant foot stepping on everyone was a
sort-of subtle parody of Monty Python's Flying Circus, even if it
wasn't intended.
I heard someone say a while back that he hoped that he
wouldn't have to wait for Episode II until 3/14/03 (back when the
release date was October). Will we have to wait 'til 3/14/04 for
Episode III????
One last question: What animation studio are
you using, Ilsoap?

Lindsey
Can be.. But I think that she could live there on Shadowlands too..
She can fly and disappear, I wonder, maybe Miragia is her palace
because it can disappear too.. I bet it would be very hard to
capture her to the planet, so I think she was there already. But why
haven't she helped those gnosticines out? I dunno..

Re: March 14,
2003: Shadowlands Episode II is Released
The way I comprehended the oracle members / gnosticus / shadowlands
thing is that there is a planet, Gnosticus IV. Much of the planet is
a nice peaceful happy planet, and the Shadowlands are sorta like the
wilderness. The oracle members were moved from the nice peaceful
happy part into structures in the Shadowlands, where they are
guarded by deadly beasts.
Perhaps this has been said, and I'm
just dense. Perhaps is this is just plain not right™, and I'm just
dense. Maybe I'm not dense (let's hope
).

Hmmm..™
I think that the story would be much better, if Gnosticine
Ancients™ would live there on Shadowlands™, and then the creatures™
have trapped them. Oh, and when I was younger, I thought that
Shadowlands was part of Gnosticus.. Ofcourse then I didn't
understand English so much etc..
But the story is, that there
is a planet, called Gnosticus IV or whatever, and the Ancients live
there. And they're "kidnapped" to the planet Shadowlands.

Re: March 14,
Once at Gnosticus IV, a Council Page runs up to
him. "Oh, Captain Keen!" he begins. "That's Commander Keen,"
Billy corrects. "The Shikadi were here, and they kidnapped the
members of the High Council and took them to the Shadowlands to the
west."
Still seems to me that the Shadowlands are a
region of Gnosticus IV.
It does say later that "Commander
Keen hops in his Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket and heads for the
Shadowlands", but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to a
different planet. It's just that there's no other way to get to the
Shadowlands.

Shadowlands are part of Gnosticus IV. At, least, they are as I
understand it, and it's my animation, so until someone sees a reason
why that's not true, that's what will be assumed for the animation.

Re: March 14,

Shadowlands is definitely a part of Gnosticus IV. As Hinkle pointed
out, the intro text shows it quite clearly.
BTW, it has been
suggested that the "Gnosticene Ancients" are the dudes in the
Pyramid of Gnosticene Ancients stealing goodies. However, it makes
more sense in my eyes that "Gnosticene Ancients" refers to the
Council Members, as KeenRush wrote.

Re:

Wohoooooo! Then things are perfect!!
For some time already I thought that Shadowlands is on a
different planet, and I hated the idea, because I think that
wouldn't fit to story very well. I thought that the story goes a bit
too quickly because it didn't tell more about it, but that's really
cool now, when I understand it!! Ah, life is great!
Well,
then that makes a lot of sense. I just should have trusted to my
childhood-instincts.
Ah, I can't stop thinking about history of Gnosticus now!
There's so much cool that could have happened. Who build the
pyramids, why? Miragia! All those places!
This is great!!

weeks straight!
BTW, When is Drips Episode 2 coming out?

Drips Episode 2... that's my next project for my homepage. Well,
technically, my second project, first, I wanna revamp a couple of
things on my homepage, then I'll start Drips Episode 2, entitled
"Hiccup". (Got the script for that pretty much figured
out).
And that bowling thing wasn't too hard. I think that
one scene took only like 3-5 hours to complete.

Re: .

i just had a bizarre dream about TMST last
night!
LOL!
THE STORY SO FAR... I was sleeping and
then I was like a wizard or something, there was 2 connected trails
/--\ | | \ o / | | | | | |
I was near
that circle. the other side was a curse and was for teachers only,
whoever passed that side died... or in other words, lost their
powers. I was asked a harry potter and the goblet of fire question
and i hadn't even finished reading the book yet (i've only read
about 5-7 chapters).
I got the question wrong and objected to
death because i never read the book. THE DREAM ENDS...
AND
THEN..
I was in a wierd the simpsons episode, smithers was
chasing King Sluggy and i was on the floor in some wierd hedge park
trying to move out of the way and king slug morphed into mr burns
and he died... i woke up...
Wierd huh? If you actually dreamt
it, you'd know how i felt.

It's... Time...
For... Shadowmaniacs!
It's clear from some of Ilsoap's Flash movies that there's a big
"Animaniacs" influence - Duke Mushroom = Wakko Warner, for
example... But I also noticed another thing that may or may not have
been "borrowed" from the TV show...
The Bloog drummer doing
the comedy rimshot. I seem to recall a similar gag in the episode of
Animaniacs where the Warners choose Rasputin to be "Today's Special
Friend", and Yakko makes a pun: "Everybody's rushin' around here!"
-> Cut to Wakko on drums.

Animaniacs was just a fabulously written little cartoon,
though--definitely surpassed the level of Tiny Toons, and blows
ANYTHING recently made out of the water. Yakko's a great character
too :-) i always liked his mannerisms and gestures.
kinda

The Animaniacs were great. Puns, pop culture, parody, and pure

You guys are speaking my language. Yes, that Bloog rimshot was
based on Wakko doing it, although there are several episodes where
that happened. And, as I mentioned before, the "I stand before you
today" joke was directly from "King Yakko", another Animaniacs
episode.
And Freakazoid... man, I wish that was still on.
That show was excellent!
