How would you rate Keen Dreams?
My vote goes to "4 stars". I actually enjoyed it when I played it, though the storyline was not that good, to say the least.

I think it deserves average, at best. I might have given it higher if it was a game by itself, but compared to what can be done with Commander Keen in 4-6, it just doesn't stack up.

So what's the speed of dark, anyway?

also, the whole game feels... rushed? the graphics seem a bit below-par, the level design, while admirable in some places, seems like more of a testing ground in others. the world map itself is nicely done, but WHY ARE THOSE LITTLE FREAKY THINGS WAVING?!?! OH WHY ARE THEY SO HAPPY TO SEE ME!?!?!? *ahem* but i agree with the average standing overall. level design and music leave much to the imagination, but conceptual devices and Keen's bunny slippers bring the score back up!

..it was kinda short, too..

I enjoyed Keen Dreams (I even registered it). If you can see past the lack of pogo and stunner it's actually a very enjoyable little game. It's also important historically because it shows what path the developement between Keens 3 and 4 was taking.

I keep hearing average at most...is this in comparison to keen 4-6 or keen overall? It's true that a lot more was done with keen 4-6 than with keen dreams, but it was made before they were. Graphically it is superior to the original three Keen games, with interesting and inventive gameplay. So it wasn't the same as the other keen games. So what?

Yeah, the graphics were better in Keen Dreams than in Keen 1-3. But in the first trilogy Keen had a Neural Stunner and a pogo. The story of Keen 1-3 was also better.

Yeah, the lack of a pogo and gun may be annoying, but it was part of the game. It wasn't meant to be the same as the other keen games. You have to look at Keen Dreams on it's own merits, which make it a pretty good game. Having a non-linear weapon (the flower power, or whatever it was callled :rolleyes ) makes it a bit more challenging, and no pogo also makes it a bit more challenging. The main problems with the game were not the lack of a pogo or a gun, they were with level design and the story, but these problems were mostly trivial to me. Also, if you'll recall, Keen didn't get the Neural Stunner until Keen 4. His gun in Keen 1-3 was called something else; I don't remember what.

4 - Pretty good. Sure, it was very different from all of the others, but it still felt like Keen in the end. For its time, the graphics weren't at all bad, and its lack of a gun of any sort is forgivable as well considering the fun there is to be had with the flower power pellets. I liked the concept and the gameplay a lot overall, but apparently that's just me. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 is that it lacks both the pogo and the cliff hang. Either one of those would have been worth the extra point.

Hmm... I thing the boss is, well... Different. Let's leave it at that.

Speaking of which, so are the rest of the enemies...

I think the lack of complete death for the enemies is annoying. I keep on going back somplace and running into guys I'd gotten already... =(

I think that the enemies of Keen Dreams got cool "AI". Hope that's good word for that, I just mean that some of them can jump, some throw something etc.. :)
