Yep, they're both words.

Re: How should Universe is Toast be made?
I get the feeling that if anyone but Tom Hall did it, it would be a bit like sacrelige. (No, I'm not a Christian. I just see the word a lot.) iD would obviously screw it up, like with Keen GBC, and while CK fans seem quite good at creating new games or mods, I just don't think they'd do it right.

Re: How should Universe is Toast be made?
It'd be great to see an official TUIT... but I'd love to see some new fan game engines... Keen4-6 stretched into a Z axis... block-based, with 3D models... but able to run on a PII350... I don't think it should be taken into first-person-shooter mode... that's just not Keenish... it was barely Dukeish. I wanna see fast-paced 256-colour action like the way it used to be... only with more colours and action.
I've been playing such a game in my head lately... it's incredibly fun ...the music's cool--there's some cool trance stuff, some trippy guitar riffs, cheery Border Village melodies--and there's some sort of algorithm that produces remixes that are never the same... the enemies are really Keen7y, and there are bonuses galore. There's this one part that's basically a maze of platforms hovering above water at various heights... lots of cool stuff to collect, and some weird little traps. Ooh, and Keen's ledge-clinging abilities have grown--he can climb around edges to avoid enemies/access other areas... and while doing that he can still shoot. All the enemies look really, really cool in 3D, by the way. Really clean graphics, very platformy movement. There's even a jet-pogo, which Keen can use as an extra platform to access hard-to-reach places. Outdoor areas look really cool, and the map level is absolutely insane--it's like Shadowlands on LSD... the Omegamatic on caffeine... and yet like nothing ever seen before. Keen can swim, of course, and he does some pretty cool dives. And a hybrid of those Xaxian life-bugs are all over the place, but they can be hard to catch... the soldiers may attack you if you go near their hives, but if you can get past them, the bounty's more than worth it. The low-grav areas are really cool--can do all sorts of crazy stuff... but when they turn off on occasion they can cause problems, as fall damage does seem to apply... quite harshly in some cases. Ooh, and the BWB comes in handy from time to time. And there are even Duke2-style roof thinggies that Keen can cling to, hang from and shoot from. There are some huge bosses in various places... there was one Bloog-looking chap I saw who wanders about a room laced with 2x2 platforms hovering in the air. And such is the attention-to-detail that all sorts of weather and similar effects can take place... no game is ever the same--rain, lightning, intense heat, meteor showers, sandstorms, plasma storms, and all sorts of other crazy stuff that makes things that little bit more difficult. And no matter how licked you think you have one puzzle, there's always another way to do it. The engine is block-based (looks a lot like the later Keens, only with a Z-axis), there are a wide variety of block shapes and sizes. Level editing is cool--you basically use the mouse to navigate the X-Y axis, and A/Z to navigate the Z-axis... place the block you want, modify any textures you need to (a block can be placed entirely consisting of dirt, and then all that needs to be changed is the top, and the sides if necessary, to look like grass)... to make things that little bit easier, pre-set blocks can be defined. Grassy areas are well-managed... Keen goes in front of and behind each blade as necessary, and Keen leaves a trail of flattened grass that gradually returns to its original state (though well-travelled grass tends to flatten completely over time). The entire game is incredibly Keenish... too bad it doesn't really exist yet... it would look even more brilliant on a computer screen.
If I can learn C++/DX8.1 soon, I'll build it so you can all see what I'm talking about. Until then, I'll have to make do with K1-modding and TGF-game making... and playing holographic imaginary Keen sequels.
I really want to play Keen with a Z-axis, and I'm far from being able to write the engine for a digital version of the game I've been playing in my mind... so in the meantime, I'm also playing a more basic isometric Keen game alongside the above-described, that I'll likely translate into TGF (I'm getting better at working around limitations in TGF, too, so scrolling will be decent, levels will be huge, there may be floating platforms and such, there'll be a level editor, and the whole game will be as lucid as I can manage).
In the meantime, though, I have a Keen1 mod to finish, and then a BWB side-scroller TGF shoot-em-up to start (the holographic version of that is looking really nice, too... and it seems to have a very Tyrian feel to it).
Anyway, I voted "Fans could carry on the Keen saga easily!", but if Tom Hall made it, it'd be great! Just as long as it's not just another first-person-shooter and indeed uses state-of-the-art technology as once promised.
Err... anyway... enough of scaring everyone...

Wow, that's a great post!
I'm drooling when I'm thinking that kind of Keen; great heights and you can jump down to water, and on the background some really cool music..

I'm almost hoping they don't bring out an official TUIT. The open-endedness of the Keen series has spawned so many imaginative creations throughout this community.
I wonder what would happen now if an official Keen7(-9) was released (or development announced). If the series is left open-ended for long enough, I intend to put the above ideas into practice (a freeware endeavour, of course).
I was considering some ideas for a Keen3 mod taking place on Korath III, but it wouldn't do the storyline justice working with pre-existing AI. If I was to do anything like that, it would use the TGF platform Spleengine currently in construction. However, I'd much rather wait until I'm capable of 3D programming and such, or until an official sequel is released.
As I said, '"Fans could carry on the Keen saga easily!", but if Tom Hall made it, it'd be great!'

Yeah, keep jinxing it people!
I KNOW it WILL be made. I saw it in my dream. I even dreamt of a Keen 6ish game for GBA but much better than the GBC version. But just a couple of nights ago, I dreamt of TUIT but I forgot what it was exactly, but it WAS keen related.
I even dreamt (like in 2003), that I was playing the Keen5 map level and there were like Secret levels and stuff scattered around the place and the levels were so awesome!
