Monky Business: An Essence Of Mayhem BETA
Keen:Modding Thread.
It's ready!
It's a stand-alone, essentially complete mod featuring eight tripped out levels of pure Spleenish wackiness.
http://jimsoftlair.tripod.com/keen/spleen/archive/orbkbeta.zip
It's Tripod, so you'll need to copy and paste the link into the Address bar. (Anyone feel like uploading it somewhere funky?)
Now I'll be taking a break for a short time. I'll keep y'all posted on progress toward the complete mod.
Now, get to it!

Ah, I've been waiting for this day since the first screenshots of your mod saw the daylight. I will enjoy.

I'm going to wait for the full versions. Beta mods ruin the surprises.

Impressive. I like the "DEMO" sign in the first level.

Re:
Gaga....brilliant. This is one awesome beta. The graphics, the sprites, the level design, the font....everything is superb. Great use of colors. It's dark and yet flashy and attractive. Very cool. That thing with the gateways was very clever. I only have a few gripes:
First of all, it suffers from the disappearing B-W-B item glitch. I think it's the red letter.
Secondly, maybe it's just me, but this game is pretty HARD. I think it was the level after the second gateway that I couldn't beat. It's very annoying going through a level, having to wait forever for an adequate moment to jump into a small area of enemies, only to die along the way. It's addictive while it lasts, though. I can't wait for the full version.

Re: Re:
Yeah, it's hard. This is compounded by the fact that I am awful. But I like that. I'll have some incentive to get better, so I can experience the rampant spleeniness that's sure to lie ahead.

Oops. I just said I like being awful, didn't I?
Don't worry, I'm not giving up anytime soon. Big wimp that I am, I couldn't handle the withdrawal symptoms.
I really like the gateway levels. That first one took me a few tries to clean out. The second was a little easier.
I assume this is known, but one of the signs still tells you about the teleporter in the ice.
The level consisting entirely of sparkles was interesting, once my headache went away. The game is very cool and different all around.
I like the way that enemies usually come in bunches. It makes the game much more engaging than earlier Keens. Added to the inability to save in-level, it makes for a very intense experience.

Re: Re:
^ Oh, yes.. Also, to notice, these levels weren't nearly the hardest I've played, but still hard 'enough'.

re: done
Well, I finally finished it. Cool work, man! Was the last level 'defaulted' on purpose? :-)
That item maze was just cruel. I cried.

Re: re: done
I still have to give that item maze another try. The default last level (I like the map picture for it, by the way) was amusing.

I finally beat it. That was cool. But what about the ending? Is that the same ending that will be in the final version? I mean, I assumed the full version will be the same game but with more levels.

This is nothing...
AS First of all, it suffers from the disappearing B-W-B item glitch. I think it's the red letter.
D'oh! I was sure I got the level order right... 3,4,something and 16. Must've been the something I got wrong.
L821 I assume this is known, but one of the signs still tells you about the teleporter in the ice.
Argh!! Nooo! I thought I didn't put that F1 in, so I didn't patch it. Ack.
KR Also, to notice, these levels weren't nearly the hardest I've played
That's it... I'm taking that as a challenge. I'll be back later...
XR Was the last level 'defaulted' on purpose? :-)
Haha, yep. I threw that together at the last moment. It took about half an hour of redrawing since all the tiles were mismatched. I wasn't sure how likely it would be that the player would explore up that way and attempt to enter the level... apparently quite likely.
AS But what about the ending? Is that the same ending that will be in the final version? I mean, I assumed the full version will be the same game but with more levels.
This ending was just thrown together over a couple of days. It's corny and disjointed, IMKO. I'm hoping something will come along that will allow the (relatively) complete alteration of the ending sequence before the mod's otherwise ready. The current sequence is just too stifling for what I want to do.
The full version will be much more than just more levels... there's still probably half the tileset to fill in, and alot of new bits and pieces to exploit... and not to mention all sorts of pre-game features. Hopefully the option to edit sounds will avail itself soon enough, too... that'll be fun.
I can tell you now, it'll be like no other mod you've seen yet, and by the time I'm finished it'll hardly resemble this beta, apart from the title screen and such (though that'll likely be changed somewhat as well).

"[T]here's far too little sharing in this world and it's a sad place because of it. Too many people sitting on the blessings that the Good Lord intended for everyone, raking in a fortune selling what isn't theirs to people who have a right to it. Take what you need out of life and no more. Leave the rest for those who need it too."

Yes, success!
Anyways, this all sounds too good for me. Maybe this is a dream, afterall?

Hah. I was just telling my brother (a few days ago) that there was no way, as of yet, to change the sounds. As proof, I said that if it was possible, you would have done it. Trippily, of course.
