Isis source code *Now Available*
All right, fokes, here it is:

==Official Isis Source Release==
www.tdragon.tk/files/IsisSrc.zip
========================

You'll notice that some parts of it are different than others; that's because I did a bunch of work some parts but not on others.

Everything else is explained in the readme.

Oooooo... I'll have to check it out when I have a chance, of course not sure how much of a chance I'll have with two tests today.

Thanks!

Yeah, I must have been lucky and got it when it was up. Anyways, I've uploaded it to ck.net in case spatang is down for a bit:

www.commanderkeen.net/files/misc/isissrc.zip

John: If you didn't want me to mirror this, please tell me and I will take it down directly. E-mail me, IM me, or whatever and I'll take it down.

No, it's not a problem :) Thanks for asking, though.

On a side note, I'm thinking about writing some tutorials sometime in the future on making your own side-scrolling platform engine. I like to flatter myself that I have a pretty good idea towards what it involves, having worked from the Worminator and Isis code as well as my own CKLO engine. The reason for this is that I'd never found a good guideline for something like that before I started all my work in that area, and that kind of source would've helped me and might help other folks who want to do something in that area.

Anyway I'd like some feedback on whether that sounds like a good idea. (I know that a lot of people here aren't programmers, so this is just for those who are or know what I'm talking about. I'm also testing this idea out in a few other places.)

Actually, I'd be very interested in the tutorials if you make any. I've been interested in this for awhile, and would like some guidelines into making a platformer. Any help would be great. All I've created was a ASCII mario in C++ :p Never got around to putting (or finding out how) real graphics in it.

BTW, what programming language would you put it in? Right now I'm taking classes in Java and should be pretty fluent with that by the end of the year, but I also know a "fair" amount of C++.

Cool. Seeing the source code is neat, although it reminds me again of what a pity it is that Isis never saw the light of day as intended.

TCL: That's one of the things I have to decide.

What I'd like to do is this: Make most of it general enough that it can be applied to almost any programming language, but also include actual code and documentation for C programmers. Java programmers would benefit from it also ( :) ), as C/C++ and Java are quite similar.

Anyway, any source code included will be in C, but the structure of the engine will be outlined so that programmers of other languages should hopefully benefit.

Eh, you have no idea.

Oh, and John, have you noticed how much your avatar looks like some Keen version of the Japanese flag?

Why don't you FINISH them and RELEASE them for everyone to enjoy?

BECAUSE
  • I still don't have an editor that works in XP,
  • I still don't have an updated tiledata and
  • I've got a school project that takes precedence over everything else computer related.

Get me the first two and I might be able to do something about the last, though.

Win XP editor
I wrote a win32 version of the Isis editor a few months ago, and posted a beta here that eK took down.

Now that the game is out, I dont think there should be any problem with it being released.

eK should still have a copy, see if you can get him to release it. It might solve your win XP problems.

Re: Win XP editor
it should be really nice if someone develops an easy keen maker for who doesn't know C++. Like an easy editor, to edit all game, except the engine. So, we just need an editor for Isis Source Code
