Which fan games have good graphics?
Hi
I was thinking about the problem of how to get graphics for the keen engine I am working on. ( opax.swin.edu.au/~paradox/ ) Creating all my own graphics at this stage is impossible, because ... well there is only one of me :-) I also dont want to use the graphics I currently have, which are just ripped out of the original keen games for copyright reasons.
So I was wondering if any of the existing keen games has sprites I could use for the time being (With full credit given of course) Can anybody give any recomendations as to which fan games have good graphics? Does anybody have any sprites/Graphics that I could use?

So...
Like, do you want sprites for your entire game or just for test runs? If it's just for test runs and not the final product, I see no problem with using ripped Keen sprites. If you're looking for sprites the final game then you'll probably want to hook up with a tile artist and talk about the level design/enemies at length as opposed to just asking for a general set of sprites.

A little from collum A, a little from collum B :-)
Basically just test runs at the moment, however I want to use my engine as part of a portfolio for applying for some java coding jobs, so I dont think using ripped graphics will go down to well :-)

From what I've seen, the best sprites/tiles in Commander Keen fangame are in ISIS Demo. I'm not sure where to download it, and you'd have to get permission from the ISIS team...

IIRC, there was an Isis sprite sheet publically released (at least to the members of VTI), but they were still based on the sprites from the original...

The sprites of Isis were very good and the sprites of the two Spork III demo's.

ISIS demo
Hi
I got the isis demo, it is very nice. However it looks like the keen sprite is just a redone version of the original keen sprite. Would this be enough to get around the copyright issues?
Also does anybody know where I can find the spork III demos? I had a brif look around, but I couldnt find them. I'll keep looking.

I believe I can be of assistance
I was the fella that made the Spork games. I'll give you both sheets, as incomplete as they are:
And the earlier ones:

hmm...
my mod got knocked pretty hard for the bland-ness of my level tiles :-) so i shouldn't really say anything... but in my opinion, it's all about capturing your personal style. i have a distinct style in which i like Keen to be seen--as is evidenced in my mod, and others have their own interpretations (like TMST, Ilsoap, etc) the most important thing is that you create something that YOU are proud of... everyone else liking it is just a fringe benefit ;-)

Thanks!
Wow, thanks slasher! I think I will try and use the earlier ones, because they include sprites for climing poles. Before I use them I will have to add in animations for pogoing, and griping onto ledges. Do you want to me send you any extra sprites I make?
Thanks!
