Maybe we could also make a 50k version of Keen1?

I'd hope nobody here is that geeky :P
Anyways, 3/14 = 314 = Keen's IQ so that's why we celebrate it I guess.

Hey, I made a few patches for colourschemes like that. (Colours.ZIP)
Quote: Pi Day, heh, haven't thought this that way
It's pi day alright, consider:
Keens IQ: 314
Mortimer's IQ: 315
Number of Keen episodes before Keen was cut: 9
Pi: 3.14159
Coincidence?

Well, you can't say Pi is something because it is endless and if you say it's something like 3.14159 it isn't endless. [/idiot mode]
Agree. They are more fun than real life!!

Oh yeah? then why is 0.1428571428... called a seventh? I can call Pi 'Pi', it satands for that endless value (pi is only infinite in our counting system, if we had Pi fingers then pi would be written as 1.

Noticed "[/idiot mode]"?
Yes, I know Pi means that, it's just the same than some other word meaning something thing.. And yes, it all depends on counting system, and your beliefs about mathematical laws..
Anyways. I know Pi can be calculated, I have poster of Pi with 10000 digits on my wall.
By the way, were those official names for the games? The final "Mort is toast" sounds quite promising.

No, most likely not, I don't feel like making more "remixes" of the Keen games - So if anyone want to make CGA Keen 2 and 3 feel free to rip the sprites from this mod.

1'572'937'613 digits actually, stord as a special text file. (I found 9 314's in it before I got bored.)

Check the patch file, it has a colour patch that turns all the colours CGA; you can alter any of the colours as much as you want- another help for mods.
Doing Keen 2-3 will be more difficult; the required patch doesn't exist to my knowledge, rest assured I'm looking for it.

Levellord -- you should be able to work out most of the patch yourself: just open up the Keen 1 and 2 exes in a hex editor, and look for the same sequence of bytes that the keen 1 patch replaced.

I didn't use the patch to turn the colors into CGA, I redrew all the graphics by hand. The patch file was just there to get the fade-out effects right.

Is it that easy to find all the patches for Keen 2?

Because that one repeats, like 1/7 = 0.142857 142857 142857 142857 ...
Pi and e don't have such a repeating patern.

"Is it that easy to find all the patches for Keen 2?"
Yes, probably the "easy" patches, like those which just change some existing code, but it might be a bit harder to find free space and do other tweaking to get the longer patches that create something totally new code, like teleport patch for example, working. Or dunno, I just guess.
Oh, and noticed what Z said Levellord?
"I didn't use the patch to turn the colors into CGA, I redrew all the graphics by hand."
Edit: Oh, and gotta try that SGA Keen 2, sounds cool!

Yeah, I noticed some differences between the patcch and the result, I just hate editing my posts. The patch works quicker though, and can be varied. (Try black and white)
Quote: probably the "easy" patches
Darn, my next mod'll need some 'hard' patches (Doors on the map, keep keycards.)
Perhaps a collection of Keen 2-3 patches would encourage more modding?

The square root of -1 is "i"; square roots are given names and symbols, they don't repeat. The number 'rho' is 1.234693877536... all are given names and symbols. Want more? 'delt' the ratio of a tetrahedrons side length to its volume there are countless numbers.

To be perfectly honest - your argument is a bit lacking.
Certain numbers are given a symbol, but they are very very few. I can only think of two that are usable in any context, and those are pi and e. Regarding algebraic numbers (such as square roots), I don't really see the point - they have a short definition and might very well be written as that.
Of course, one may still define a symbol to use in a certain context to have a certain value, but they are not universally given. How would that work, when you yourself say that there are countless of them?
Feel free to ask more.

It's hard to argue a school of philospohy on a forum. Face to face I bet we could have an interesting conversation. I just hate mathematicians saying things like 'infinity is an odd number, if you have infinity dollars you can spend an infinite anmount and stll have as much as you started with' thats STUPID infinity is still a mathematical number! Its not some kind of numeric black hole that defies all the laws of maths. What next 'Quantum addition theory'?

Q and R
Quote: Regarding rational numbers (such as square roots),
Square roots are irrational numbers, just like pi and e. They are endless. pi = 3.14... and 2 ^ (1/2) = square root of 2 = 1.41...
You can't write the square root of 2 as p/q.
