Bloog Water Crossing in MIDI
Here's what I've done.
It's far from perfect; actually I was kinda hoping someone here who had some experience with modifying/makind MIDIs could do something with this. I made a MIDI from each of the 8 FM channels in the original IMF. I also have put them all together, and modified them (I changed instruments and volume). but the result, BBB.mid, still doesn't sound too good...
I've got the 8 MIDIs in the zip file as well, and as far as I can tell they're true to the AdLib channels in the original tune. Can anyone do anything with it?

here we go...
KeenCommander, i tried my hand at the file...
www.angelfire.com/ct/XkyGuide/keen/XkyBWC.zip
btw, this is on Angelfire, which means that it's really finicky about outside linking. if you can't get the link to work, try cut+paste in your browser with a space after it.
wasn't sure what to do with some of the tracks, but i think what i got done is pretty good :-)
any chance you could get a ZIP up of some of the other .mid files from the CK games? i know a ways back there was the IMF2MID thing...

Sure, I could send you any Keen tune you want. Did you want the tracks in seperate MIDI files, or combined, like the one I had (without instrument patches)?

KeenCommander, i put together my Bloogwater Crossing MIDI from the BBB2.mid file you had in your .zip file. it was very helpful :-) i'd love any other Keen music you can get in a format like that. the individual track files weren't necessary at all.
glad you guys like it :-D Bloogwater Crossing and Slug Village were my two favorite songs from the Keen4-6 series...

Here are some, Xky. I could make a MIDI for each tune that isn't already in MIDI. Tell me which tunes you want and I'll convert them.
Oh, I put your MIDI on my site, too. That's ok with you, right?

Re: yep
The "Security Center" music has already been made a MIDI in Bobby Prince's music pack called "Jazz Me". Also, Ilsoap's music pack contains the Keen 5 world music ("The Omegamatic").
A music that would be cool to see as a MIDI is the introduction music from Keen 5, from the "Star Wars" story display.

You're right, Chogall, After listening to Jazz Me I noticed the similarity. I never could figure out which tune it was trying to imitate. Thanks.
I can make un-refined versions of any and all the Commander Keen tunes, but I'm dependant on others to refine them. I'd like to be able to "fix" them myself too.
Xky, how did you do that BWC tune? What software are you using? I have Cakewalk Express, Microsoft DirectMusic Producer, and Noteworthy 1.27 (Unregistered). I can't figure out how to make them sound good, though. Were you just modifying staff properties, or did you go in and add/delete or modify individual notes?

hehe
sorry for my absence, i was at a new years' party :-P
first off, of course it's 100% fine to use anything i do on any webpages, especially cc314! secondly, KeenCommander, i'm using an old piece of software by Midisoft called Studio4. i got it when i was in 7th grade, and i've become very familiar and comfortable with it, even though it's not as powerful or robust as Cakewalk, etc...
bottom line, what i'm doing, is looking at your compiled MIDI file, running the game to hear the original, and then making my own, NEW file, using both sounds and notes as reference. :-)
i just downloaded the .zip file, i'll give it a look over the next few days. i'll post anything i've got ASAP ^_^

Anyone used Digital Orcestrator? I've found it's the best, user-friendly midi editing software that I've seen, although you do need midi knowledge to add controls and such.

Well, I went back to Cakewalk, and, many hours later, here's what I got
Korath Base III Keen 5 died.zip
They're not perfect, but IMO they're better than what I did before. Feel free to modify them.
Just edited the Korath one.

Re: yep
Just listened to them. The Keen 5 ending isn't bad at all, but the Korath III Base tune really got on my nerves. And there already was a version of it as a MIDI anyway. Still, it's nice work.

Thanks! It actually wasn't that hard, so I'll do more upon request. The new MIDIs sound dead on, KC, barring the Bloogton Mfg. one. (Understandably so, since factory sounds aren't aprt of the General MIDI soundset. I may have to refine that one myself.)

One thing I couldn't find out though, where is the "New Keen 5 tune" from?

OK, here it is, To The Future
It's not that technoish, but I'm a n00b when it comes to MIDI making, I've had some experience in Digital Orchestrator but I know nothing of controllers or SysEx or any of that, so it isn't that great...but tell me what you think.
Also some of the harmony might sound really screwed up on your comp, because it sounded normal on one of mine and really strange on another..maybe it's the rain.

It doesn't exist--In the game. According to Andrew Durdin, it's in the audio.ck5 tune, though...

new keen 5 tune
yeah, the "new keen5 tune" wasn't used in the game, but to me it sounds like a map-screen tune of sorts. i like it better than the "omegamatic" song, personally :-)
btw, i LOVE Bloogton Mfg's MIDI... (the official Keen6 version, anyway) so that'll probably be the first one i pounce on (meaning it'll take the longest)

With all due speed! I'm trying to hunt down some good mechanical/factory sounds to convert it into an mp3 so it sounds like it should. The General MIDI sound set is good, but not wuite that good.

It's kinda off-topic, but I converted some Wolfenstein tunes too...
cosmicoding.com/WolfMIDI.zip
Added some more tunes to the zip, and modified a couple old ones
Are there any wolf MIDIs already circulating? I could only find the title song.

It's not in any of the levels. If you ask me though, it sounds kind of like a rejected levelmap tune.

I had a feeling that it was something like that. It's a bit too bouncy for a map tune, yet it doesn't really suit any of the levels.

here's one version...
there's not a whole lot you can do to emulate the cool machinery sounds in Bloogfoods, Inc... but... i think i did a pretty good job of it :-) tell me what you guys think (btw, this was done on a Soundblaster 64gold... so it'll probably sound pretty good on any Creative card, and maybe not quite as good on other brands... but let's try it anyway!)

Welcome, and niiiiice work. I really didn't do anything to "enhance" them other then using some good soundfonts and adding reverb. I oughta get back to work on some songs, actually.
