IT. HAS. ARRIVED.
A WONDEROUS NEW CREATION IS BORN!
Geocities is going to have some "down time" all this weekend, so instead of burning effigies of the Yahoo staff because you can't get to the Too Much Spare Time homepage, you can amuse yourself by going here, my ALL NEW WEEKLY ONLINE COMMANDER KEEN COMIC...
"The Chasm of Strife"
www.thisstrife.com/sluggy
Yes, it's hosted by "This Strife", a humour website mainly focusing on Duke Nukem and other id classics (including Keen).

Did they tell you to name it the Strife?
Great website!

That's brilliant!
The web-cartoon itself is quite good, but there's one small item that is absolutely brilliant.
Near the bottom, while Keen is waiting for Duke to make his punchline, Keen whistles. The tune he whistles is the main melody of the world map for Keen 6.
Major kudos for even thinking of that.

YES! TEN POINTS TO ILSOAP!!!!!!!
There's always secret stuff in my cartoons, hidden for those who look for them.
--------------
(I came up with the name "The Chasm of Strife" myself. I later realised I should've call it "Strifewater Oasis", but too late!)

Yeah I was wondering what that tune was...I tried it on the piano but failed to recognize.

Alright!!!
Alright! Ten points to me! (those don't come cheap, you know)
Say, TMST, do you have perfect pitch? You know, where you hear a note and then immediately know what note it is on a piano? Because I have that, and due to other musical references, I get the feeling you do too.
Anyways, I look forward to what's to come.

Practice makes perfect
I wish! The piano that I had access to until I was about 13 was out of tune, so if I did have perfect pitch, it was all calibrated wrongly. When I heard of the idea that some people could hear a note and tell you what letter it was, I was amazed at this ability. Every now and then I test myself to see how accurately I can identify a note... mostly it's guesswork, so I'm probably not in the Perfect Pitch Club. (My secret musical shame!)
But who needs PP anyway.

Re: Practice makes perfect
Well, still, at least you have musical skill. I've actually met someone who had perfect pitch but no desire to be in music whatsoever. Figure that one out.
Anyways, I sent you an e-mail about a possible idea for a further comic strip (since you so eloquently requested sed item).

Re: Practice makes perfect
In the manga Bremen there's a guy who can listen to anything and reduce it to a series of notes -- ANYTHING.
Like a car driving by.
I dunno if this is even possible, but hey, it's manga, not real life.

Re: ---
That is indeed possible eK. Certain engines are easier to pick out the key of than others (motorboat engines are good). I once tried to figure out what speed a boat would go by the note it was playing, but then I found out that every boat is different and has different gears, so I said "forget it".
There are even a few lucky people who can tell the note of a thunderclap or a brake squeal. But that's way beyond me.
Anyways, this is way off subject (sorry about that TMST).

...giving a sonic spectral analysis of a sound just by hearing its harmonics and working out their associtated notes is possible. (Not by me, though!)
Anywayze, back to the topic. I might do an actual "musical comic" at some stage. There'll be a MIDI file so that you can sing along with Keen and Co. (Cheesy, huh?)

Re: eh?
Yet another comic has been added to the series.
Hey, TMST, will you accept comics drawn by others as well?

Yeah, why not.... that'd be cool - then I can slack off for a week!
But only if they pass the "Make King Sluggy Laugh" test!
