Keen editing..
Hi all, I'm very new in this all internet Commander Keen community. I have played Keen many years, but I haven't really heard much about this editing. Now I have started editing Commander Keen 1 and I can make levels. But is there any tool/program for editing textures and sprites of this classic game?

Off and on; I've come up with a possible way (I'll be doing a proof-of-concept soon) to change tiles in Keen 4-6, but haven't looked at doing it in 1-3.

I think editing the pictures of Keen 2 and 3 is much easier than editing the pictures of Keen 3.5-6

I agree; but there's less challenge involved... But if people want I could quite quickly shove together a simple tile import/export prog for Keen 2 & 3...

OK, it's done.
Download durdin.net/andy/keen/modlatch.zip for the program and source, and if you want durdin.net/andy/keen/ck2tiles.bmp for a sample of some changed tiles (made by my little brother).
This should work under any OS that can run ordinary DOS programs, but no guarantees of course.
Run modlatch.exe without any parameters for instructions on how to use it.
I have tested this with Keen 2 and 3 versions 1.0 and 1.31.

Program works fine, but I have tested it only with Keen2.
I test Keen3 later.

Why not Keen 1?
Because Keen 1 compressed its egalatch file... It's taking a little bit longer to get reliable decompression/recompression for it...

I don't know... that's a bit more difficult...
I might have a go during the upcoming Easter break, but no promises. If I do come up with something you'll be limited to only changing the actual sprite images, not their sizes (fiddling the sprite sizes for the Keen Military patch[/a] was complex, and I lost the notes I had from that).
