An Idea For A Future
I was thinking that I might start a page that would be called the "Keen Wall" it would list the status of every Keen fan that joined; active not active, on vacation, and how long that person would be gone, when they left and when they joined the Keen Community.
It could also list what that persons abilities were; so somebody like eK wouldn’t have to keep asking for help. He could just go to the wall and see if there was a member who had the ability he needed. The person could list what they were currently doing in the community and if they had time to take on more projects and when they would be free.
This would be better than any guest-book, because it would show the whole life of our community and not that Fill314 went to CC314 last week and he likes Keen a lot. That’s just to simple. However with this idea Fill314 could come in and have it list that he stops by CC314 every week but isn’t an active member.
So basically it would have the following (in no particular order):
1 - A complete list of all Keen fans; an accurate guest book.
2 - When this person became a Keen fan.
3 - When this person moved on and left Keen.
4 - What this persons history is with the Keen Community; and Keen in general.
5 - Web page, and e-mail; or anything else they want listed.
6 - This persons list of names used in the community.
7 - Favorite enemy and Keen game.
8 - Abilities: programmer, artist, writer, webpage etc.
9 - Availability and ability to help out.
10 - Current projects working on.
11 - Future plans in community.
12 - Anything else that would need to be listed.
I like this idea; it would take a lot of work but show our community’s strength. Should I pursue this and try to make such a page? I would need the cooperation of most Keen fans for this to work.
This idea needs heavy criticism for it to turn out the best it can. Yell away!
On a very side note, this idea probably came to mind because I would want people to know I was a Keen fan if I ever left the community. 20 years might pass, but it would still list my history in this community. Thanks for reading all 410 hundred words!

Re: An Idea For A Future
i think it seems like a pretty decent idea. what exactly do you mean by Keen community?
Do you mean people that just play or have played Keen, or do you mean people that occasionally participate on this bb? Either way, I would be more than willing to answer the questions that you listed

Sounds very good. I would be willing to help to the best of my ability (though unfortunately that is not a lot )
Hmm now that i think of it I left Keen and went to other things more than 2 years ago, and I haven't been back since

It would be for both active people that come to the board and those who don’t. The page would be divided between active members and non active members. All names would be in alphabetical order, and there would be special section for people who are actually doing something. And other individual sections as they are needed.
So if you go to the active members list you would see who was currently posting at the board. And if you go to the projects section you would see who was doing something and what they were doing.
The projects page could be divided into parts that encompass it’s topic; unofficial games, art, writing, web page development, and all else.
For individual status on each person, there would be a current history and past history. Current history would list everything that member had done that month; gone on vacation, released a fan game, and everything else they felt like have up. Past history would be a collection of all past months.
The pages would be updated as that members submitted their current status. If a member fails to submit what they did I the community for a couple months then there would be a bank; unless someone like me updates it for them, not likely.
This was all just ideas on arrangement that I threw out on the moment.

Most people would be a big help by submitting their status often. For a normal member once a month would be good, for a very active member four or more times a month.

The idea sounds good, but you realize you must be commited to this page, and it may be very hard to maintain. What would happen if you left the CK Community without any notice, which many people have done. Also would you be adding old members of the CK community? There have been a lot of people that left the community awhile back.
Hope the idea works out with you. If so, I'd be glad to give my information and whatever to you, or if you need some sort of help, course I'm not sure how much help I could be.

Yes, that is my biggest worry. So if things work out in the coming months I will try to get it up by around Christmas.

I wouldn’t leave like that, unless I died; not likely, I would have a will anyway (I have to write that). And since I have been a part of this community I have only left twice; once for two months and again for 3 or 4 months. I came back from the later absence back in January and I haven’t missed more than three days at a time; I am here every day! O I joined around august of 99; think it was on the 14’th, I exchanged a little conversation with Luie14 (I probably spelt that wrong). The first time I left was around the beginning of 2000, we were switching boards; I stayed on the old board for a little while. And four to three month before last January; I just left, lost all interest in the community, I had to find myself before I came back. It was a real pity that last time; I missed CC314 rebirth, darn. I did read it all when I came back though, but it wasn’t the same.

Probably; but definitely not all. I might see if I can enlist some people to track one or two of the best old members (Geoff specifically). All we have to do is sift through all the old post, from both our old boards. But that definitely would not be first priority, it would be done slowly over time.
Does anyone know what the state of the "Keen Mega Message Board" is? (Its the jazz board) Somebody said they backed it up on their hard-drive, but nothing new since. And the board is deleted. Where is it? Who has it? I could check tomorrow but that’s then and not now. The message is in Miscellaneous forum about three or four months old I would expect.

Thanks, I certainly will try my best. But right now I have other obligations.
There are also other ideas in my head that I will try to bring to light in the future. One of these ideas is that a lot of people who like Keen don’t know this community is here. We should try to get to them; go to other boards and old games pages that have fans; tell them about our community and hopefully we would get a couple new members. And I’m sure we could find one or two nice pages out there that would be willing to put up a banner for free.
A community doesn’t get better unless the people in it work to make it better. Everybody seems to be willing to help so we are going to go places; remember this is just the beginning, it doesn’t end till everybody is gone, lol! There will always be a Keen fan.
I probably won’t be here tomorrow, umm…later today; I am going to try to wean myself back to normal sleeping hours. Till Monday!

Yep, I have it on my hard disk. I haven't put it up yet as it is a somewhat tedious process, but I will probably have the time within not too long.

this might turn out to be a great way to keep the community strong. although I had a similar idea, I lacked the web skills to do much. So go for it. And if any help is required, eg. with the graphics or something.. well..

I think Keen Wall's a good idea...if you can pull it off
But yeah, it'd be nice to have these things written out somewhere.

Thanks chogall!

In the past there was ideas that were much more bold and bigger in size then what we have now, but they never came together.

Thanks, I will consider that. But don’t sweat, I will probably have the talent to do good quality work in such fields by then.

I know,
Okay question time:
What kind of submission process should the page have? I don’t know any CGI or Java, but I could learn, and yes I learn quick; I just get bored. There is the submission process CC314 uses (plain HTML right?), but you have to log into the page to check that. So that would be time consuming.
Is their anything you don’t want to see on this page?
Is there something that you would like on it that I have not mentioned in some manner?
Should the page be graphic heavy, with full background images that slow down older computers? This would also include Keen banners at top and maybe the bottom of the page.
If there are banners for Keen sites, should it rotate them?
If there was graphic Keen pics for the menus what color would you want? Please only Keenish colors.
In say three years (more like five) I might be able to get a dot-com for Keen, this is only a dream right now but would you be for having free hosting for all Keen sites? No banners too.
Umm…that’s it.

Re: An Idea For A Future
I do not think that it should be graphic intensive. Even now a lot of browsers can't handle that in a efficent manner and there is no need to discourage people from coming.
similarly, i don't much like banners
