Secret of the Oracle?
Does the secret in that name mean that information that the Oracle (it's that machine) tells in the end of Keen 4?
I can't understand why the name is Secret of the Oracle, though it's good name..
Or maybe it means the information that Oracle has, will be secret, until the Gnosticine Ancients, who are captured to the Shadowlands, are there and use it to tell the info, what would be normally be secret, because there are no way to hear/see it. :)

And, does anyone remember where was the info about some hex-editing that can effect to Keen 4's random generator or something? I couldn't find it anywhere!

Re: Secret of the Oracle?
adurdin mentioned a while back that he found the random number tables or something, and if you hexed them you could get effects like berkeloids constantly throwing fire and slugs constantly relieving themselves, and other stuff like that.

Secret of the Oracle I think means the information that Keen gets at the end of the game.

Maybe because posts older than 15th December 2001 are no longer on the board?

Anyway, I found the .exe, and uploaded it: durdin.net/andy/keen/unrandom.zip

Do you have any examples of in CK 1-3?
And does anything change besides the berkeloid and the slug?

Another crazy idea from the producers, it only is revealed at the end of the registered version of Keen Dreams.

Re: Endings in Keen Dreams
I took a look at the ending screens in the registered version of Keen Dreams, and I found some differences between it and the shareware version. The differences are marked in red in the table below:

Registered versionShareware version

Yes! Boobus Tuber's hash-brown-
like remains rained down from
the skies as Commander Keen
walked up to the Dream Machine.
He analyzed all the complex
controls and readouts on it, then
pulled down a huge red lever
marked "On/Off Switch." The
machine clanked and rattled,
then went silent. He had freed
all the children from their
vegetable-enforced slavery!
Everything around Keen wobbled
in a disconcerting manner, his
eyelids grew heavy, and he
fell asleep....

Billy woke up, squinting at the
early morning sun shining in his
face throught the bedroom window.

Nothing. No vegetables to be seen.
Was it all just a dream?

Billy's mom entered the room.

"Good morning, dear. I heard some
news on TV that you'd be
interested in," she said, sitting
by him on the bed.

"What news?" Billy asked,
still groggy.

"The President declared today
National 'I Hate Broccoli' Day.
He said kids are allowed to pick
one vegetable today, and they
don't have to eat it."

"Aw, mom, I'm not afraid of any
stupid vegetables," Billy said,
"But if it's okay with you, I'd
rather not have any french fries
for awhile."

THE END

Okay, honey," Billy's mom said.

"Uh, Mom, what are we having for
supper tonight?" Billy asked.

"Oh, we're having liver, dear."
"I HATE liver! I don't have to
eat liver. I saved the earth!"

THE END

(Possibly continued in...
"Commander Keen Meets the Meats")

Commander Keen will definitely
return in...

"Goodbye, Galaxy!"

Watch for it!

The title screens also look different (registered to left, shareware to right).

I really wonder why the starting screen is so much different between those versions.. I think that the shareware one is much cooler! :)

Are the endtext and the title screen the only differences between the two versions?

Where'd you get that registered Zorath? My id Anthology version appears to be shareware (but it comes with the hints and such...that belong in the registered version).

Well, I didn't get it the legal way... :pirate I guess you get that version if you buy the game from Softdisk.

There may be some other small differences, but nothing big... The levels are at least the same.

We don't give away the registered versions here--as it is illegal. You still can buy them all legally, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find them on Google.

Re: re: i nva know wot the subject is
earlier this year illegally downloaded the registered keen dreams. it's no different. except what zorath had said.
and the secret levels that can be accessed only via warp mode, are removed and if you try them, it crashes the game.
i hope this helps.

I hadn't tested that.. Maybe the "secret" level only was something testing area because of the new engine.

You can only warp to them, and they're just tiny levels with some points and that's it.

Re: Keen dreams secret levels?
yeah,

its a bunch of lilly pads in the sky while a bunch of points that u get jump to.
and theres some flower powers (singles) on the floor with 2 split exits.

There is no debug mode for KD so you simply press F10-W etc. While in the game, but there isn't sprite mode, secrets mode etc.

:moon Take that iD for not toasting the universe!
