Would you like to see Keen on PS2?
I would! It could have all Keens on the same disc. When you start the disc, there could come somekind of menu, where you can select the game. And it should use 16 colors, like the original games. There could also come somekind of manual and covers for the disc could be somekind of new Keen art, and there could read something "Keen is back!". Smoothly running game to play with PS2 controller.. :)
Do you have any ideas it could include?

Whatcha gonna do when Keenmania runs wild on you?

Well checking the games market I think Keen suits better on a Gamecube.

I hope this will never happen Keen on a PS2 or a Gamecube. I don't have and I don't want to waste money on them. There is no difference with playing it at a good pc with a controller ;) .

aack! No! Keen is (or should have stayed) a strictly PC game. I hardly consider Keen GBC part of the series :-P

it would be cool if they remade the graphics, and the music, but keeping the original 'keen feeling'

i would buy a ps2 for that :love

As far as I can see
If the original Keens are ported to another system, I can really only see it being a small one, either GameBoy or PocketPC or something like that.

Re: As far as I can see
Keen would not work for the PS2. The PS2 and X-Box are 'Big Kids' machines, whereas the Gamecube is for younger consumers. Therefore I'd say that the only big console that Keen'd work on would be the Gamecube. The old games would also have to be 'extras' contained in a new, modern Commander Keen game for that system.
Otherwise, it would only work on PocketPC or Gamboy Advance, as Andrew said.

hehe...
reminds me, back in the days of the NES/Genesis (yes, BEFORE the SNES) i used to wonder how Pogo'ing would work on the NES... coz the Genny has it all figured out--3 buttons, jump pogo shoot... i always got a little upset because the NES would have had to use 2-button firing, or use "Select" as the shoot button ;-) lol

NONONONONONONONONONONONOOO!
I DETEST PS2, and besides, what'd be the point -- you could do all that on a PC-- even a reletively old one.

Maybe it could be a good way to bring Keen for the new player generation. I think that many people wouldn't pay much to get only for example Keen 6, but maybe they would pay a normal price of game to get all the Keens.. :)

Consoles are not for kids, including 'Big kids'. Gamecube is a family-console, PS2 is for casual gamers and Xbox is for the gamers who like great graphics etc. The average gamer on a PC is 29 years old, on a console it was 23 years old for NGC and 25 years old for Xbox and PS2(thought it was). They all have their weaknesses and greatness. And yes Commander Keen would fit more on a Gamecube. The controller is still an upgraded version of the N64 controller which was already the controller to play 3D-platformers.

hmm...
this is a question that is/has/will always plague the world of video games: it's the question of NOSTALGIA...

it's one thing to take the old game and re-bundle it, re-package it, and tinker slightly with the graphics and music, then release it as part of a "compilation package" designed to cash in on gamers' fond memories... only problem with this is that the changed graphics and songs aren't the way the audience remembers them (Mario All Stars, SNES, anyone?)

it's something entirely differently to take the old games, add a slick user interface, maybe an entirely new world or sub-level to get from place to place and not tinker with the graphics or music. (Sonic Jam, Saturn, anyone?)

both have one sole purpose: a quick, easy buck. just write some crappy emulator that will run your old ROMs on the newer hardware, package and sell. cash.
it's just a matter of HOW you do it. tinker with the goods? add interface? simplify things? clean up difficult parts of levels? add an "easy" mode? etc, etc...

in all honesty, if i were going to buy a Commander Keen game for ANY next-gen system (though i agree it'd market best to the GameCube audience) i'd buy it looking for something NEW. having Keens 1-6 and Dreams on as an added bonus would be nice (the new version of Rygar supposedly has the original 8-bit game hidden within it, and Nintendo's Excitebike64 had the original Excitebike in it!) but let's face it--we all want a NEW Commander Keen. it's why we've banded at this message board for so many years, despite hopeless odds... we want something new that kicks ass!

i would KILL to get my hands on a 2.5-d Commander Keen game, like the new Duke game, or Kirby64, or Crash Bandicoot, or any of the other 3d-but-track-based games... Keen lends himself VERY well to 3d "skinned' animations. he's a simple-yet-detailed design, blah blah blah.

so to answer the original topic:

[YES] i would like to see Keen on a next-gen system, be it the PS2, X-Box, or GCN.
[NO] i do not want a straight compilation pack. i want NEW CONTENT, even if it's just video clips of the designers reminiscing.
[YES] i'm shutting up now :-P

Re: hmm...
But if CK goes onto a really good-graphics console, then it won't really been Commander Keen any more... part of CK is the imitation 3d, not many colours and the plain white to replace a realistic skin colour... if it's added to PS2, Gamecube whatever, then it'll be real 3d, with real colours, but it will be a different game. Or at least thats what I think...

Well, it seems that I'm not the only one who wants something new.. In fact, I've only realized it just now with Xky's ranting. No wonder I've been playing the mods alot and never the actual games.

Re: hmm...
Does anyone have Quake III Arena? The reason I'm asking is cuz there's a really great mod for it called "Target Quake." I believe Ilsoap mentioned platform type games in a real 3d environment (something Like DNMP) Well this Mod does just that with Quake III. I think it'd be cool to make a Quake III mod like Target Quake and give it Keenish graphics and a Commander Keen model, but it also seems like it wouldn't be too hard for a developer (such as id software) to use their Quake III engine to build a keen sequal. I know, it'll never happen, but I can still wish :-)

KeenCommander: get off the PC dude....remember id wants to make money, and it's isn't going to happen on the PC for Keen. No publisher would even begin to pick it up for PC only. The only chance Keen has is for a PS2 or Game cube.
And for Xbox, well it might have a chance if the PS2 was done also, but no publisher would want to doing it exclusively for Xbox except for Microsoft, because of the limited number of Xbox's on the market. Also id has to be convinced that it is worth it.

If anyone on this system even knew the reason I signed up for this forum....well let's just say I know what's going on in the recent Keen events.

Sony only has 30 million consumers.

The gaming market has 100 million consumers.

That means there are 70 million to be won over by the Xbox.

I hope that happens, because I have an Xbox.

Ilian is the first of the Dark Apostles, the Mistress of the Void. Her realm is that of mastery of the Dark Arts, the powers of the Dark Symmetry. She is a powerful sorceress, and is believed to be the single most powerful of all the Dark Apostles, though her armies pale in comparison to Algeroth, and her siblings conspire to usurp her position in the favor of the Dark Soul.

"The gaming market has 100 million consumers. That means there are 70 million to be won over by the Xbox."

I'm not sure to what resource you are getting your numbers from, but even if your 100M is correct, how do you figure XBOX has manage to out sell the PS2 and Game Cube in less amount of time. There is only 4 million units sold in the US currently. so how does 4 million units translate into 70% of the market, given that Sony has 30%, and this leaves 0% for Game cube.

Can We say XBOX FAN.
