Cosmo Time Trials...
Hey, remember when we had the ol' "Beat Keen1 in 5 minutes" thing going on?

How about beating Cosmo1 in under 20?

I just gave it a cold turkey runthrough, not having played the game in over 4 years... I think I did okay running and jumping, but I'll admit I died on Level 6, Level 7, and Level 10 once. Also, the path I took through level 10 was definitely NOT the fastest... However, despite all my mistakes, I managed to pull off a time of 24 minutes, start to finish. I started the timer as soon as the game said "Now entering Level 1." and stopped the timer as soon as the screen faded to black after finishing the boss on Level 10. (granted, I still had to do the "Bonus Stage" (my first one) after that, and then the "What will happen to Cosmo?" level... so if I counted those, I think my time was closer to 25 minutes.)

Either way, I'm confident that time under 20 minutes is possible. The big hang-up levels are 5 (do you get the hamburger or not?) 6 (shortcut and a hit or not?) and 10 (how to get the switches fastest).

Wow, pretty good time!

Probably not gonna happen for me; I haven't ever played Cosmo so much, I can't remember the levels, I can't even remember how to control him! [Cosmo emoticon here]

I can do Cosmo pretty quick; about 25-30 (cheating) 35 (normal) or 5 mins (hexedited exe so you get an airbord all the time.)

I've never finished Captain Comic. I think my brother finished it once. I'm playing to finish the NES version sometime, because that one has a savegame function (in the emulator :) ).

Could you tell me where to hexedit the exe?

Anyway, yeah, sounds like a nice hack, I should tweak classic games too, only ones I have touched are Keens, Wacky Wheels and Crystal Caves.. Well, plus some others too.. But not much..

Woah! I knew it was possible. :-) I'm guessing you didn't die at all that last time, right? Cool!

Episode 1 of Cosmo is my favorite--because there's no "inside the monster" level. The second level in both Episodes 2 and 3 really frustrates me. :-)

Congratulations again, Xtra!

* Agrees *

I always die in those levels, I used cosmoedit to eliminate them. :evil

Level 5 of episode 1 of Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure takes place inside a plant. Well, you finish level 4 by jumping into the mouth of a plant. :)

True--but Ep1:Lv5 has a nifty cave background, not that horrible intestine-like stuff. The ground in Ep1:Lv5 is also a nice light grey color, contrasting with the much darker background... As opposed to Ep2:Lv2 which is much harder for my eyes to interpret.

Cosmo's graphics are sooo neat.. It really uses only 16 colours? :)

Re: re: Inside the monster
Those inside the alien levels look plain nasty. Another level I quite dislike is Ep2 level 10 since it's such a beast (in fact I've never beaten it without cheating, though I've only gotten to it with one health left).

re: Cosmo2
I really liked that level--it required a LOT of planning ahead and patience. If you tried to get all the points and/or kill everything, you stood absolutely no chance of doing it. But if you were willing to be patient and take your time with things, it wasn't so bad. I'm gonna go back and play thru all the Cosmo games again soon--I'll see how much health I can keep going into Level 10 this time.

I ought to actually finish playing through Eps. 2 and 3 in the first place. I've started Ep. 2 several times, but I despise the second level.

That's probably why Xky :p

Never before these time trials have I played a Cosmo level without trying to get every point.
