Keen Awards
???
What happened to the Annual Commander Keen Awards for 2001? We should do some this year, at least - especially since Isis II is arriving, not to mention the new editors and websites that we've seen. And the "Shadowlands" animation!
How can we do this?
Just start nominating stuff. If something is already nominated, there's no need to re-nominate it.
When a list of all the eligible "fan things" has been compiled, categories will be made and we can all start voting for our favourite fan things. The awards will be based on the ideas we threw around last year, I suppose. The voting and stuff, if its okay with those concerned, could be run through the Keen newsletter.

Re: Keen Awards
I think Ilsoap definitely ought to get an award for Shadowlands.

Re: Keen Awards
TMST's comics, Isis II, CommanderKeen.net, the Keen Encyclopedia... those all deserve awards.

Re: Keen Awards
Are these Keen Awards actually coming this year? Who's going to run them? Commander Keen Vault would like to run them, example the voting stuff could be some polls to vote.

Keen Awards
These awards should probably be presented in a categorized manner. One for an animation (if such exists annually, and this year we have the masterpiece by Ilsoap), one or two for webcomics, a winner and a 2nd-comer for fangames, and one for the most valuable supporter of the Keen Community.
Who is going to design the trophy? I am more than willing to do this .

Re: Keen Awards
It could be like this too:
1. Animations, comics etc.. (all graphical stuff)
2. Fan games, mods, levels etc.. (something more than just graphics)
3. Websites, stories etc.. (all text stuff basicly)
Would there be also 1st, 2nd and 3rd on every of those?

Re: Keen Awards
I like KeenRush's plan of it the best.
Maybe add some humourous awards too.

Re: Keen Awards
Here's a suggestion, also based on
the old thread about the CK awards:
Categories:
1: Programming (Mods, Fan-games about Keen, etc. eg, Yorphius, Isis II)
2: Fan Art (Pictures, Animations, Music, Stories, Sculptures... about Keen. That little word "Art" covers A LOT of things, remember!)
3: Web (Websites, Javascripting, Services to the Keen Community...)
4: Miscellaneous (Other stuff that we don't think of until somebody goes and does it!)
That's pretty general, so here are the specific awards under each category. Remember that not all of these awards need be awarded at all. Perhaps, for example, nobody will make a fan-song that is worthy of an award. (Heaven forbid!)
1.1: Best Mod of an original Keen game
1.2: Best Fan-game
1.3: Best Editor
2.1: Best Graphical Artwork
2.2: Best Narrative
2.3: Best Song
2.4: Best Animation
2.5: Best Non-Computerised Art (Okay, my snow-slug was pretty crappy, I'm not trying to get this award or anything!)
3.1: Best Website (judged on content, layout, useability, usefulness, aesthetics...)
3.2: Best Online Entertainment (Javascripts, CGI programs, interactive stuff)
3.3: Online Community Service recognition (For those hardworking moderators, website-owners, etc etc etc)
4.1: Keenest person of the year
Is there anything else that I've left out?
I don't know who the panel of judges could be. Maybe have different judges for different categories to avoid "self-nomination", but then that leads to the problem of "I'll nominate you for 2.5 if you cominate me for 1.2" conspiracies.
(We could con one of the inventors of Keen into being a judge!)

Re: Keen Awards
Good ideas TMST! Your last line is good (not that garg pic, or well, it's good but I don't mean that), could those Monkeystone dudes be judges?
I would like to know, who actually won last year and who was judge or how people voted and other stuff..
I really think we should keep these awards!

Re: Keen Awards
Just came up to my mind, if we keep these awards, admins could do temporary category called "Keen Awards 2002" or something like that. And after awards, it could be removed.

Re: Keen Awards
So, it is being done then. I still advice you to add an award for the best comic strip, because this way it helps narrow down the arts. There are good arts and great comics, we should let both categories be awarded.
One more thing I'd like to say is that Geoff should be presented the position of a judge. I'm sure he finds a little time for some exploration of additions to the Keen Universe .

Re: Keen Awards
Welcome to the new home for the Keen Awards! You'll notice I've diabled polls for the moment, and they will continue to be disabled until we have a set list of nominies, and dates for the voting. I figure we should do it similar to how eK had set it out in the old thread: everyone votes for a set period of time, then the top three are selected by a non-biased panel of judges (but obviously not the defunct Keen Council).
